CONTEMPORARY REALISM ARTIST FROM ONTARIO, CANADA.

Roger Schmidt is a self-taught fine artist who was born in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, Canada, but has resided in Kitchener, Ontario for the past 25 years.

From an early age, Roger had a natural aptitude and fascination for drawing and painting. However, in 2009, he decided to pursue visual art more seriously—focusing on portrait and figure drawings in charcoal.  Black and white charcoal continues to be one of Roger’s favourite mediums to work with.

Roger’s work is primarily inspired by traditional realism, with an emphasis on capturing dramatic light and form. He believes that a successful work of art should always have an equal balance of skill and intrigue, which allows the viewer to create their own narrative as they view and contemplate the piece.

In recent years, Roger has expanded his skills to include acrylic and oil painting, and has thoroughly enjoyed exploring the possibilities that colour-based mediums have to offer.

Along the way, Roger has been included in prestigious international exhibitions and recognized with several notable awards.
